Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine “similia similibus curentur”. The pathy was created by Dr. Hahnemann. The treatment in Homeopathy involves highly diluted substances. In this way of treatment, body’s natural healing mechanism is triggered. Homeopathic doctor studies the history of the patients along with the symptoms carefully. The medication significantly depends upon the case history and symptoms which includes mental, physical and emotional state of that patient. In Homeopathy, treatments are referred to as ‘remedies’. In India, degree in Homeopathy can be earned like any other medical degree after passing 10+2 exam. The aspirant must qualify 12th exam with biology as an optional subject. Then he has to attempt All India Entrance Exam through which he may get admitted to Homeopathy College according to his merits. The first course of Homeopathy is Bachelor in Homeopathy Medicine and Surgery (BHMS). It requires five and half years to complete the course along with one year compulsory internship. The post graduate course is of three years which is MD in Homeopathy. The candidate has to complete BHMS successfully and with good merits to seek admission for MD. Along with educational qualifications, a Homeopathic doctor needs other skills to become a successful doctor like strong belief and commitment in Homeopathy, interest in alternative and complementary approach to health, sentimental and responsive to patient’s personal issue and problems, analytical, confident, enthusiastic, energetic, good and patient listener, etc. Apart from practising as a Homeopathic Doctor, if a candidate wishes to do research in Homeopathy, then he may contact National Institute of Homeopathy, Kolkata.
